Memory is an important component of a computer for storing device such as programs, data,
result etc. Semiconductor and Magnetic memory are two types of memory which is generally
used in computers.
The semiconductor memory is faster, compact and lighter. The magnetic memory is
cheaper than semiconductor memory and used as a secondary memory or auxiliary memory.
The Main memory is generally used the Random Access Memory and Read Only Memory.
Internal memory and External memory is two parts of memory where internal memory contains
central processing unit and main memory. In which CPU contains registers and cache.
External Memory contains the magnetic disk, magnetic tapes and optical disk.
1 kB = 8 bits
1 MB = 1024 KB
1 GB = 1024 MB
The Cache memory is placed between CPU and the main memory. It is faster and expensive than
main memory. cache memory also increases the operating speed of the system.
Main Memory <-> Cache <-> Processor
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is read-write memory of the computer. SRAM and DRAM
is the types of RAM where SRAM stands for Static Random Access Memory and DRAM stands for
Dynamic Random Access Memory. DRAM has reduced power consumption and large storage capacity
in a single memory chip.
